How Many Maryland Solar Water Heaters?

July 19th, 2009

maryland_solar_water_heater_map How Many Maryland Solar Water Heaters? The AtisSun team is putting together a map showing how many Maryland homes are using solar water heaters. You may be surprised by the number of people in Maryland using solar energy to heat their household water. These numbers are very encouraging and Maryland solar water heater installations are increasing on a daily basis.

Whether your solar water heater is 25 years old or AtisSun (or someone else) recently installed a new solar water heater…if you live in Maryland your help with this project will be greatly appreciated. Simply send me an e-mail with your home’s location or leave a comment below. You do not need to include you address. Just your town and county so we can add your home to the map.

If you are using a solar water heater you are part of a special group of people in Maryland helping to create a better tomorrow for us all.

Solar Installation FAQs- Roof Load

April 8th, 2009

Over the next few days I will be covering some of the more common, frequently asked questions about residential solar water heating in Maryland.

“Will I need to reinforce my roof to support the weight of the solar panels?”

The answer to this question is…No. While our solar thermal panels are somewhat heavy, your roof will be able to support this additional load. Properly designed roof framing systems are engineered to withstand substantial snow load, even in Maryland. You should only be concerned about this additional load if you know for a fact that your home was poorly constructed or have reason to believe your roof framing system is failing.
