Ridiculous Energy Prices

September 21st, 2009

Maryland energy prices are absolutely ridiculous. If you thought your energy bills were high this summer…just wait till next year. If only my retirement account was up like this.

  • The average Pepco Washington, DC bill has increased more than 36% since 2004.
  • The average Pepco Maryland bill has increased more than 63% since 2004.
  • BGE rates have increased around 80% since 2006.
  • Pepco Maryland’s summer 2008 rates were 6.69% higher than 2007 rates.

Which Do You Like Better?

September 9th, 2009

Recently, we have been installing a lot of solar water heaters in the Baltimore/Washington DC area. It seems most people prefer the flat plate solar panels over evacuated tube collectors (see pictures below). While flat plate solar panels and evacuated tubes each have their own advantages most people like the appearance of the flat plates. Which do you like better in terms of appearance?

Saving Money With Solar

September 2nd, 2009

“Is saving money the only reason why I am interested in solar?”

earth_pollution01 Saving Money With Solar

This is a good question to ask yourself if you are considering a solar water heater for your home. While the savings benefits are significant over a long period of time a solar water heater corrects one of the least energy efficient areas of your home. By using the sun’s clean, 100% renewable energy to heat your water you have made a tremendously positive impact in helping the environment. You are reducing tons of CO2 emissions which means less pollution and damage to you world. This is a wonderful benefit!

Making the decision to switch to a solar water heater does make financial sense, but should that be the only reason? There are a lot of things we buy that don’t save us money and don’t help the environment. Maybe it’s time to take a closer look at why we are truly interested in renewable energy investments…like solar water heaters.

Get Paid To Save With Solar In Maryland

August 27th, 2009

get_paid_to_save Get Paid To Save With Solar In MarylandI am constantly amazed at the popularity of Cash For Clunkers, Cash For Dishwashers, Cash For Whatever, etc… These programs are o.k., I guess, but the solar energy incentives Maryland homeowners have access to are absolutely terrific.

Look people!…Most Maryland homeowners can get over $4,000 towards the installation of something that will literally save you 10’s of thousands of dollars. Not to mention solar water heating eliminates CO2 emissions. In many cases a typical Maryland solar water heater installation  will not cost much more than a regular, fossil fuel burning water heater.
