Flat plat collectors are basically a box lined with an absorber plate and copper tubing. The copper tubing usually runs in a parallel pattern as you can see in the picture (see flow tube).
When the sun shines on the solar collector it uses the solar energy to heat a special fluid inside the copper tubing. Once heated this fluid is transferred to your hot water storage tank and heats your household water.
