Solar-powered Kindle cover extends battery life to 3 months
SolarFocus is debuting a Kindle case at the 2012 Consumer Electrics Show that makes it possible to use a Kindle device without electricity of any kind.
So far, the SolarFocus case only fits the fourth-generation Kindle and not other models, but given the popularity of the Kindle Touch, it will most likely be developed to accommodate that model as well.
The Kindle case sports a solar panel on the front that extends the battery life to three times the normal length, or more than three months, in normal environmental sunlight conditions. If you were to only rely on the solar charger, it’s possible to never plug the device into another power source (wall or computer USB).
In fact, just one hour of sunlight can provide an additional three days of reading time on a Kindle.
The case featuresĀ a light for reading at night or in low light inside the cover as well. The battery life for the LED light can last up to 50 hours without drawing on the Kindle’s main battery.
